They look the other way and at night they come out to play: Key West Ramblings

This is why we come to Key West. Duval Street!!

Night Scenes:

"Went down to Captain Tony's, to get out of the heat...."

Interior Decorating!!
Street Capering (Thats like an "impish dance") usually brought on after a couple of hours at the Green Parrot.

An hour and a half earlier: The Green Parrot (My favorite bar in Key West)

The Alamo: Great drink deals and "Pulled Pork Sliders"!

Rumbas: Pretty decent mojitos and good food. Love the open air bars!

Meals of Key West: They look the other way, but they still eat!!

Home from the Key West bacchanal and pouring over photos. Had every intention of posting a few words and shots while "in country" but just didn't have the time. Better late than never. We'll begin with food.

It begins like this:

Kitchen Duty:

Flank Steak and Key West "Pinks" with Crab-cakes from Eaton St. Market

Mahi-Mahi and Grouper Tacos with Mango-Orange Salsa and Guacamole

Paella and more Crab-cakes and Pinks, cause they were just that good!

They look the other way: Key West Ramblings

Bill has a zen moment at the bottom of the pool

So it begins, three weather-weary couples, a fantastic house in "Old Town" Key West and Spring Break.

Bill and Stacey
John and Tammy
Jim and Cristen

Rented the perfect 3 bedroom house in Old Town from Richard Naselli (find him in VRBO but, if you're under 30 forget it. He doesn't rent to "Spring Breakers") We are literally 200 steps from El Siboney, the best Cuban in the Keys. Our location is just a minutes walk to Duvall with all it's wackiness and it offers the perfect oasis for sunny mornings and afternoons by the pool. A quick "Maxi-Taxi" ride to Albertson's for provisions and we're set for the week. Menu for four of our meals includes;

Paella
Grilled Chicken Salad
Surf and Turf
Fish Tacos

Everything made in our own well appointed kitchen. Saves us from eating cardboard "fishbites" at the Hog's breath, "YUCK"!

Street View

Scenes from the "Casa Vaccasiones"

Great Interior, Bedrooms, lots of Cuban Tile!!

El Siboney

First evening walked down to the Square to celebrate the sunset with all the rest of the pirates and pagans and grabbed quick drinks at Captain Tony's before a walk back to the house. Collapsed exhausted at about 10:30 (been up since 4:00 AM)

).

Wake in the AM after a great nights rest and find a local gym (Island Gym on White and Catherine. Very quick walk from the house). The gym is small but packs a lot into it's space and Sam at the desk is friendly and helpful. Break ourselves for an hour and a half. Back to the house for a quick outdoor shower and then sun by the pool.

SIX MORE DAYS LEFT!!

January Moon: Friday January 29

Took an opportunity to view the largest moon of the year.

Snapped a couple of other pics as well.

In mid-March I'll be cursing the gray and clinging days of Winter's end. For now I'm glad the nights have returned to their frigid splendor. Moon so bright tonight I could have read a book from its light in the front yard! Fire in the hearth and comfortable armchair called me back.
